Why I Created Paralegals Connect

People often ask me why I started Paralegals Connect. The answer is simple: I created the community I wish I had when I was in paralegal school and early in my career.

School did not come easily for me. I often had to read assignments multiple times before they finally clicked, and I studied far longer than many of my classmates just to keep up. There were plenty of moments when I questioned whether I was smart enough to succeed. But I refused to give up. Through determination and a lot of hard work, I graduated at the top of my class with a 4.0 GPA and was inducted into the LEX Honor Society.

When I began working in litigation, I quickly realized that learning didn't stop after graduation. Attorneys are incredibly busy, and while many are wonderful mentors, there isn't always time to answer every question a new paralegal has. At the time, there was no AI, no online communities, and very few places where paralegals could ask questions without feeling intimidated.

So I started Paralegals Connect in 2013.

It began as a place where I could ask questions and connect with other paralegals. I posted almost every day to encourage discussions and build a supportive community. Before long, something incredible happened. The group grew rapidly, and members began helping one another in ways that far exceeded anything I could have done alone. Watching experienced paralegals generously share their knowledge with students and those just entering the profession has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my career.

From the beginning, I made a conscious decision to keep this group focused on education, collaboration, and professional support. That's why employment posts are directed to our Employment Board, and advertising is limited to our Preferred Partner Program. I never wanted this community to become overwhelmed with job listings or promotions. I wanted it to remain a place where paralegals could come to ask questions, learn from one another, and receive honest support from people who truly understand the profession.

Being a paralegal changed my life.

I didn't come from wealth, and there were times when I found myself raising my children on my own. Because of this profession, I was able to build a stable career, purchase a home, support my family, and create opportunities I never imagined possible. Although I once dreamed of attending law school, I ultimately chose to focus on raising my children and continued building a career as a paralegal. I discovered that hard work, dedication, and continuous learning could lead to an incredibly rewarding and financially successful career without taking that path.

That experience shaped the advice I share with others today. I believe deeply in the paralegal profession and the opportunities it provides, particularly for those seeking financial independence and a meaningful career. I encourage people to build careers that allow them to stand confidently on their own, knowing that a partner should be someone who walks beside you—not someone you must depend on for your future.

More than a decade later, that mission hasn't changed.

Paralegals Connect exists to educate, encourage, and support legal professionals, and I'm incredibly grateful to every member who has helped make this community what it is today.
